Going diving with us
How Does It Work?
Get acquainted by diving with us a few times as a guest. Afterward, if you wish to continue diving, you’ll need to become a club member. For more details, check out our joining us information and guest diver policy.
Please ensure you have a current dive medical. Additionally, unless you’re visiting to try out the club, you must be a BSAC member.
Signing Up for a Dive
Weekly Updates:
Every Wednesday evening at the club, we discuss upcoming dive plans. Additionally, details are shared in a weekly club email sent out on Wednesday nights. This email includes the dive schedules, locations, and contact information for the dive managers. We also now use an App called ‘Club Event’ to schedule and book our dives.
Contacting Your Dive Manager:
Inform your dive manager of your interest in diving. Provide essential details such as your diving qualification, availability to tow the boat and trailer, and any specific requests (e.g., preference for shallower dives, planned gas usage). You can sign up via the sign-up sheets on the club noticeboard or by contacting the dive manager directly via email or phone.
Communication:
Maintain regular contact with your dive manager. They often arrange a “call-in” the night before the dive to confirm final arrangements. Be aware that dive plans may change due to weather or logistical considerations.
Making It Easier for the Dive Manager:
Provide all necessary information promptly. Respond to calls and messages as requested. Give as much notice as possible about your availability, and notify immediately if you need to cancel.
On the day:
Make sure you have enough money to pay for the dive!
Make sure you have the right kit for the dive, and that it is serviced and well maintained.
Diving is based on helping each other, so please offer to help at the boat shed, launching and retrieving boats, refuelling, towing, etc. It makes the day more fun and the Dive Manager’s job easier!
The small print
The Diving Officer has the authority to prevent anyone diving if their equipment, experience or training aren’t up to it.
All divers need to dive with an alternative air supply (an octopus, a twinset or a spare valve and pony cylinder).
We need to have at least four club members on a dive, including an Advanced Diver or a suitably trained and experienced Dive Leader.
